Dr. John Schinnerer on another difference within the marvelous human brain – automatic or conscious processes. Who is really in charge - your "old" emotional brain or your "new" rational brain?

Close the gap between how you think your brain works and how it ACTUALLY works. You THINK you have free will. What if it were the case that you don’t have as much free will as you think? What if 90% of what you do and say is automatic?

A fascinating and novel approach to radio. Dr. John borrows Jim Gaffigan's method of speaking the thoughts of the audience making for humorous and helpful radio. Best ever?!

Optimism ... perseverance ... resiliency – traits that you can learn in order to be more successful in life, in order to lead a happier, more fulfilling life.

In nearly every area of our lives – academics, the work place, athletics, and personal development –optimism has been shown to be a critical marker which discriminates between the successful and the unsuccessful.

Albert Schweitzer said, “An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight... The truly wise person is color- blind.”

Yet that isn’t exactly right... find out why in this edition of Guide To Self with Dr. John Schinnerer, host of Guide To Self Radio on KDIA

The brain is the most complex system known to humankind. It contains over one hundred billion neurons, or brain cells. Each cell in your brain has an average of ten thousand connections to other brain cells.

That means that there are more connections in your brain than there are stars in the universe. The fact that my brain works even remotely correctly, a fact my wife might dispute, is a the most convincing evidence I’ve found for the presence of a higher power.

The brain affects everything you are, everything you do - your relationships, work, parenting, marriage, and even your relationships with God. To understand yourself and those around you, you must understand the brain.

If your brain is working right, then you are working right. If your brain is NOT working right, then…
you’ve got a...
problem.

Check it out with Dr. John Schinnerer and Guide To Self radio.

Dr. John Schinnerer, host of Guide To Self radio, speaks with Jamie Ford in New Zealand. Jamie is the founder of the Foresight Institute, which supplies the Optimism test designed by Dr. Martin Seligman. Jamie’s company tests folks for how optimistic they are and then provides workshops to make pessimists more optimistic.

At the center of pessimism is another trait, learned helplessness. Helplessness occurs when you believe that nothing you do affects what happens to you. It’s sort of the opposite of free will. It’s like 'No Will.' Pessimism and helplessness may even lie at the heart of
depression.

Your level of optimism affects your performance in the workplace, in sports, and at home. Included in this show is an exercise to help you boost your optimism.
